Namaste & Welcome

deZengo is about the "Art of Beautiful Living." Finding beauty in the strangest places and oddest objects. Being open to the most important discovery of our life--SELF DISCOVERY. It is my hope that as we heal our own pains, angers, fears, regrets...we can begin to heal the world.

As we continue to work independently and interdependently something wonderful takes place. Unity! Creation through collaboration. Life is not meant to be lived through the blinders of fear - step out of your comfort zone and into the NamaZone. Truly we care and our efforts to unite different cultures, backgrounds, genres, and yoga styles together is an enormous undertaking, but someone had to do it. We seek to create bridges between the different practices for those who seek truth and live love.

Pull up a cyber chair, sip some tea and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with Bonsai Yoga at their online hub or hang around here with the deZengo folks. We double down dog dare you!

OM Times : SACREDspace - Yarn Therapy
Yarn Therapy: Maximize your Breathing (Yoga for Crafters)

Belly breathing. Most adults do not realize that they spend the majority of their lives breathing incorrectly and this is the cause of many major health problems related to stress. It amazes people to find out that a simple thing such as breathing can truly affect their health in positive ways. But what is belly breathing and why is it important to practice during knitting?

If you have ever watched an infant or toddler breathe you will notice that their stomach rises and falls with each breath. Somewhere along the line of growing up we lose the natural reflex of deep breathing and begin to practice what is called shallow breathing- where the breath stays high in our chest. This type of breathing actually encourages stress in our bodies. Some of the benefits to learning how to belly breathe include: increased oxygen levels in the lungs which, in turn, increases the oxygen in the blood stream, improved energy levels, elimination of toxins and a strengthened immune system, reduction of stress and anxiety and increased metabolism (which can also play a direct role in weight loss). So why belly breathe when you are knitting? First, because knitting is such an effective form of stress relief and relaxation. Combining knitting with an awareness of your breathing further enhances the stress relieving benefits of knitting. Second, because knitting forces you to be still long enough to be able to pay attention to your breathing. You might as well use your still time to bring some additional health benefits into your life. Goodness knows, most of us do not have enough of these still and quiet moments in our days.

In order to retrain yourself to breathe correctly, here are a few simple steps to follow next time you pick up those needles or crochet hook.

1. Place your hand on top of your stomach area. As you breathe, concentrate on making your hand rise and fall with each breath. Concentrate on filling your lungs up and then fully exhaling and emptying them.

2. Now that you have seen and felt correct breathing, pick up your needles and pay attention to your breaths while you are working, taking slow breaths in and out. If you are working on an uncomplicated pattern you can even inhale for a count of 8 and exhale for 8 counts. You can also add a 2-3 second hold between your inhale and exhale. You might feel a little light headed at first as your body gets adjusted to having enough oxygen.

3. Continue to pay attention to your breathing through your knitting session and feel yourself relaxed and with a little more energy than when you started. You may also find that practicing belly breathing for 5- 10 minutes before you start a complicated pattern may increase your attention and patience.

Happy breathing and happy knitting!

OM Times Sept 2011 : Health & Wellness Editorial - A Road Map for Health

OM Times Sept 2011 : Health & Wellness Editorial
OM Times Sept 2011 : Health & Wellness Editorial

Each month, as topics relating to our mental, physical or spiritual health are discussed, we are laying the foundation for a “RoadMAP” to healing that begins with(IN). I have been inspired lately as I continue to see and connect with those creating change as they “just do –what they do!” It reinforces what my belief that anyone can succeed if only they know, “the rest of the story!” Here’s a few tips to help you navigate through some of life’s twisty roads.

YOU Can Change Anything
Since they say we are so easily led like sheep and will believe anything we see in print, then allow me share this with you while you are still in a word induced trance. You have the power withIN to create change. In learning how to create with discernment & wisdom amazing collaborative creations can manifest. Seriously, you can change almost anything within your personal universe (aka body) and then begin to manifest outward.

Healing Begins withIN
On the path to healing, one huge step is with the realization that the body is an entire universe! When we begin to look with(IN) for answers versus seeking something “outside of self” we learn how we can heal our own body through our thought and desire to do so. Please express loving thoughts to your SELF today! You are the only YOU we’ve got!
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

Breathing for Life
SACREDspace yoga, emphasizes the Pranayama breathing, or - the science of breath control. It consists of a series of exercises intended to meet the physical needs and to keep the body in vibrant health. In simpler terms, the importance of proper breathing cannot be emphasized enough. You can live without food for approximately three weeks, several days without water – but only a few minutes without oxygen. That should put it in perspective! Explore your breathing and watch how fast you gain control over individual aspects of health & wellbeing!

A Story of Giving

A Story of Giving

Ms. Pearson had a dream to bring a reasonably priced Latino Doll to the little girls who otherwise might not have one. After she retired from the military, she decided it was time to do something about it. Throughout her personal and professional history, Ms. Pearson has been known for her humanitarian acts of kindness. This story is no different. Once she heard about Humanity Healing International projects in Uganda, she once again offered to help. Donating a huge shipment of dolls to be donated to children in need. Thank you Mary for always being a tool for the creator and for sharing your light with us!

My name is Gabriella, but you can call me Gabby!

I am so exited that we are going to be friends and that you will become a part of my family.

My grandma is the best cook and she has promised to teach me how to make her Christmas Tamales because I am a big girl now!

I know that we will be able to learn many things from each other. Every year when it is really hot outside, my Dad makes ice cones for all the kids in the neighborhood, maybe he'll show us how to make them.

You and I are going to have so much fun together!

OM Times Magazine : Health & Wellness : Sept Mid 2011 - The Tri-Healthy Formula

In order to have complete health and wellbeing, all parts of existence must be addressed and attention given.  More often than not, the emphasis has been placed on the physical aspects which are necessary as a means to work the muscle groups and all major organs.  However, as a human our health is dependent on three separate but interconnected pieces – seen and unseen.  The first is the most obvious as it pertains to what can be seen, the actual physical body.

Healthy Body

Keeping the body healthy tends to be the most straightforward and easiest to understand.  Science has proven that without movement the muscles begin atrophy which eventually cause paralysis.  The complexity of the human body is yet understood fully, but we do comprehend that without the body, the human experience can be a little tricky to get navigate through or with.   The body, like any machine, has a few requirements to maximize the output.

Exercise & Physical Activity

Good Nutrition

Rest & Play are necessary

Healthy Mind

It has only been recently that science has been able to document and validate what Yogi’s have been saying for thousands of years.  What you think does play a very real role in your health & wellbeing.  UCLA scientists found that the stress hormone cortisol suppresses immune cells' ability to activate their telomerase. [1] www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080715152325.htm;

Healthy Spirit

A healthy Spirit is the foundation of true health - because, no matter how healthy they are, our bodies will all die someday.  The Bible and other great books of wisdom teach us that our spirits can be reborn by believing. If your spirit is healthy, it will be that much easier to have a healthy soul and a healthy body, and you will be building health on a solid foundation.  Strengthen your spirit by spending time communicating with the creator and divine presence that lives in each of us and in all that has been created.
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.  Proverbs 17:22

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - by Robert Fulghum

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten - by Robert Fulghum

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school.

These are the things I learned:
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.
Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

Studio Spotlight - Bikram Yoga Asheville, NC

SACREDspace Studio Spotlight - Bikram Yoga Asheville, NC
www/hotyogaasheville.com

If you have not attended a Bikram Yoga class, you have no idea how challenging 26 simple postures become with the addition of raised temperatures. Although my own yoga practice began with power yoga / raja, I was not prepared for what transpired in 90 minutes between me and my body. The first class, I felt good just to stay in the room the entire time and not pass out. I was not prepared or properly hydrated, but I knew at the end of the class that I was looking forward to the Shavasana.

My first Bikram Yoga class was in Asheville, NC where I now go every opportunity possible. Here is the 411 of Bikram and our studio spotlight for the month of August.

Bikram Yoga is named after its founder - Bikram Choudhury, who studied Yoga with Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Paramahansa Yogananda. It is a series of 26 poses performed in a room with temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Each Yoga Pose is usually performed twice and held for a certain period of time. Yoga Sessions start from Standing Postures, then the Backbends, Forward Bends, and Twists. The poses are accompanied by Kapalabhati Breath or the "blowing in firm".

Why practice Yoga in a heated room?
Heat is used in Bikram and Hot Yoga in order to allow you to go deeper and safer into a Yoga Pose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your body becomes more flexible in the heat and since most poses used in Bikram are physically challenging, heat allows you to get into a pose that you never imagined you can do.
It also eliminates the risk of injuries, promotes sweating, and helps you release the toxins in your body.
The Bikram Yoga Poses not only work on your muscles but also on your internal organs.
Each pose stretches and strengthens your muscles, joints, and ligaments and, at the same time release the toxins and work on your internal organs like the glands and the nervous system.
Some people are often discouraged to practice of Yoga by thinking that they are not flexible enough. Yoga is not about being flexible, but about strengthening your body and your spine in all directions with the goal of creating a union between the body, mind and spirit. All that matters is to try the right way without pushing yourself too far.
What are the Benefits of Bikram Yoga?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bikram Yoga is designed to "scientifically" warm and stretch muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the order in which they should be stretched.

The practice of Bikram Yoga promotes the cleansing of the body and release of toxins and utmost flexibility.

It can also reduce stress and increase blood circulation according to Yoga Books.

The practice of Bikram Yoga can also help you lose weight and develop muscles.

Anyone can practice Bikram Yoga even people with chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and thyroid disorders may benefit in doing the Yoga Poses by reducing symptoms, and also one of the best ways to prevent any ailments by keeping the body healthy.
Owners, Janet Horn(below left) and Adi Westerman(below right), are extremely excited to introduce this refreshing yoga to Asheville!

Adi and Janet first met during their extensive yoga teacher training course, lovingly dubbed "Yoga Boot Camp", in 2005. The course sparked an even deeper passion for yoga in each of them. The intensive training course demanded that they each work very hard, both emotionally and physically, in order to ultimately deepen their overall quality of life. In many ways the training course is designed to "kill you" in order to give way for a tremendous rebirth. Upon this journey, both Janet and Adi, individually discovered their dream of pursuing a yoga practice for a lifetime and sharing it with as many people as possible. After teaching at many different studios, Janet and Adi, reunited in 2007 with the common vision of creating a Bikram Yoga community in Asheville, NC.

Studio Spotlight - Bikram Yoga Asheville, NC

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your body becomes more flexible in the heat and since most poses used in Bikram are physically challenging, heat allows you to get into a pose that you never imagined you can do.
It also eliminates the risk of injuries, promotes sweating, and helps you release the toxins in your body.
The Bikram Yoga Poses not only work on your muscles but also on your internal organs.
Each pose stretches and strengthens your muscles, joints, and ligaments and, at the same time release the toxins and work on your internal organs like the glands and the nervous system.
Some people are often discouraged to practice of Yoga by thinking that they are not flexible enough. Yoga is not about being flexible, but about strengthening your body and your spine in all directions with the goal of creating a union between the body, mind and spirit. All that matters is to try the right way without pushing yourself too far.
What are the Benefits of Bikram Yoga?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

STREETteam Aug 2011 : To Be or To DO - A Spiritual Walk : SWSI

In July, the Humanity Healing STREETteam met with the Founders and Board Members of Sweet Water Sustainable Institute to visit the campus and see first hand what a 9 Million dollar gift looks like!  The first thing you notice as you drive up is the sheer magnitude of the campus and the potential to bring eco-tourism to Tennessee while providing classes on sustainability as well as Health & Wellness modalities.

I had already made a few trips to the breathtaking campus prior to it being donated to SWSI.   Sweet Water Sustainability Institute (SWSI) is an educational organization that offers workshops, seminars and classes for the cultivation of ecological sustainability with the practices of chemical free farming and gardening, permaculture, composting systems, green buildings, alternative and appropriate energy technologies including solar and wind power and locally sourced arts and hand craft instruction.
The historic property of the non-profit campus includes 144 acres of land, 14 buildings including two gymnasiums, fitness center, indoor competition size pool, recreation center with cafe', multiple classrooms, administrative offices, three dormitory buildings, apartments, science lab, 250 seat dining hall, ¼ mile track, forests, fields and a stable.
As a non-profit organization SWSI will receive support in the form of cash or in-kind services through grants and contracts from government agencies or foundations, contributions from individuals and businesses and earned income from fee-for-service tuition, investments and other ventures. Besides funding from individual donors, estates, private foundations and corporations, funding will be through tuition fees and fee-for-services/tuition arrangements.
Historic preservation and sustainability go hand in hand. Green development and preservation will be achieved while rehabilitating the historic buildings and meeting green building standards providing a working model for teaching how preservation, energy efficiency and sustainable facility management practices can be achieved together.
Workshops, classes, seminars and educational opportunitites will be conducted in the areas of  wellness, personal growth, creative expression, agriculture, and sustainable living practices.

The Meru Project

There have been many that thought, and perhaps even professed the Hebrew alphabet to be a language of Light, blessed to Us via a Sacred Holy Flame that was to reside in our hearts that we were not to allow to ever be extinguished.Perhaps if followed through the entire series of this playlist you may be blessed with a deeper understanding of just how the original texts were written in some of our most ancient traditions.I had the same conclusion myself years ago, without having witnessed this exploration or set of video's by the Meru project, nor did I understand at that time what was later revealed unto my knowing regarding what is truly within the Hebrew Language and the Study of Kaballah.I certainly hope you enjoy this.
