Eco Challenge 2012 - Toothpaste

Eco Challenge 2012 - Toothpaste

Eco Challenge 2012 - Toothpaste

You can make your own tooth powder, just take 3 parts baking soda and 1 part salt and mix it together and store in a glass container. Wet your toothbrush and dip it into your powder and brush away and then wet your brush again and brush some more. I use this powder all the time and it’s really does a good job of cleaning my teeth, gums, and tongue. And it helps keep your breath sweet too! You can also make a nice tooth paste by adding 6 teaspoons of glycerin to every cup of tooth powder and 40 drops of flavored oil such as cinnamon, anise, or peppermint or any other natural oil flavoring oil you want to add (Nice thing is… you get to choose the flavor). I also like Tea Tree oil toothpaste and it works well for treating gum disease, and you can buy this at any local health food store… or you can add 5 or 6 drops Tea Tree Oil per cup of natural toothpaste above—it has a interesting flavor that some don’t enjoy so don’t add too much.

I use both and they are wonderful for having a great natural smile and great breath!

Blessings : 2012 Year of the Dragon

Chinese New Year 2012 begins Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, and will usher in the Year of the Dragon. Celebrations have been held for the two weeks leading up to Jan. 23 as revelers from Hong Kong to San Francisco geared up for the most important holiday in the Chinese cultural tradition. However, the event has become a multicultural affair, celebrated many nationalities.

Chinese New Year 2012 begins Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, and will usher in the Year of the Dragon. Here is a look at the meaning behind the Dragon and some predictions for 2012.

Chinese New Year 2012:

5 Thumb Rules to Embrace the Dragon Year

Some Chinese aggrieved find inspiration in rebel village

The Chinese New Year is symbolized by a new animal zodiac, determined by a 12-year cycle. Last year was the Year of the Rabbit. But 2012 welcomes a more commanding beast -- the Dragon.

Who is the Dragon?

The Dragon is anything but a formidable foe in Chinese culture. Unlike the demon that gets slayed in Western literature, the Dragon is a symbol of good fortune and intense power in Eastern culture. In Chinese tradition, the Dragon is regarded as a divine beast.

According to Sung dynasty manuscripts, the Dragon is described as having the "head of an ox or donkey, eyes of a shrimp, horns of a deer, body of a serpent covered with fish scales, and a feet of a phoenix," and it usually clutches a pearl, meant to symbolize its supernatural powers.

How to make money from gold investment

The Year of the Dragon is one of the most revered years of the Chinese New Year calendar, and those born under the sign are regarded as innovative, passionate people who are colorful, confident and fearless.

The Manila Bulletin cites that the Dragon is sometimes called a "karmic sign." The Dragon is larger than life and its appearance means that big things are to come. The Year of the Dragon is a flowing river, not a stagnant lake, so things happen quickly earlier in the year. The Dragon marks progression, perseverance and auspiciousness. It may also bring about unpredictable events.

Elements

The five Chinese elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The Dragon is made of Earth, Water and Wood. The Chinese New Year 2012 will primarily be a water year. This could mean riches and abundance or it could mean natural disaster.

Hong Kong astrologer Alion Yeo said the world should prepare for storms and floods. "Expect to see a lot of flooding in areas like Thailand and Southeast China," he said. "Indonesia, Pakistan, India and places in China like Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou are particularly disaster-prone. They are likely to experience frequent earthquakes."

Earth elements prosper from Water. So if an individual has a strong Earth-related sign, then he or she will have the opportunity to make money in 2012. This year can also be prosperous for those with Metal and Wood-related signs. However, Wood signs must mind their words and actions as an unsavory reputation looms this year.

Water is not a good omen for Fire signs, as Fire fears water. Fire signs must be mindful of their personal safety, conservation efforts and exhibiting patience in 2012. However, female Fire signs could see blossoming social relationships in the Year of the Dragon, including romantic ones.

SACREDspace Studio : Feb 2012 : Love - the Commercialization of Yoga & Sex

The Commercialization of Yoga & Sex

As with all things good, someone at some point discovered a way or ways to distort, profit and generally work to destroy that which creates positive change or teaches individuals how to become self reliant and empowered. February is the month most “celebrated” as the month of Eros Love or passion. Many scramble to purchase cards, flowers, candies or other gifts to show endearment to those special relationships in our life with specific emphasis being given this month to those with whom we are physically intimate.

By now you have probably heard many times that yoga is about “union” and the union can be interpreted to be the connection with individual’s inner workings (mind / body / spirit) as well as the physical / mental / spiritual union that takes place between two individuals as they come together in the very sacred act of love making. From yoga’s roots in India we know ancient texts have been recorded and handed down for generations to assist humanity in maximizing pleasures, including that attained from physical union with another.

The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text and is widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vātsyāyana. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual intercourse. It is largely in prose, with many inserted anustubh poetry verses. "Kāma" which is one of the three goals of Hindu life, means sensual or sexual pleasure, and "sūtra" literally means a thread or line that holds things together, and more metaphorically refers to an aphorism (or line, rule, formula), or a collection of such aphorisms in the form of a manual. Contrary to popular perception, especially in the western world, Kama sutra is not an exclusive sex manual; it presents itself as a guide to a virtuous and gracious living that discusses the nature of love, family life and other aspects pertaining to pleasure oriented faculties of human life.[1]

Common Misconception : Kama Sutra is a Sex Manual

Kama in Sanskrit is pleasure. Not just sexual pleasure but all pleasures experienced through the senses and the emotions. The perfume of a rose, the taste of a well cooked dish, the touch of silk on the skin, music, the voice of a great singer, the joy of a spring morning, all these are experiences of kama. Kama Sutra could properly be translated as “Aphorisms on Pleasure”.

Of the Kama Sutra’s seven books, only one deals with physical lovemaking. Of that book’s ten chapters, only one deals with sexual positions. One chapter out of thirty-six. [2] Sexual energy is the most powerful energy in the body; it creates life. While some other yogic traditions recommend renunciation of sexual energy, Kundalini Yoga embraces it. Techniques in Kundalini Yoga are designed to channel sexual energy up the spine, through pranayama, asana and meditation, to where it can be used for spiritual development. [3]

Of course, the other chapters are not nearly as “hot & steamy” as this one and we know what sells in our society – sex! The reason it is so popular, beyond its immediate physiological effects go beyond our reasoning comprehensible mind and tickle some part that has possibly been dormant and is ready to awaken.

Yoga is a complete science that addresses all aspects of living and provides solutions that are natural and attainable in most cases. As the individual deepens their yoga practice they become in tune with “self” while working their way through a road map to a healthy and blissful life. We should already know by now that there are those amongst us who have learned how to “see and manipulate humanity” by having the understanding of how to create, profit, manipulate or abuse us with and without our consent.

For some, Yoga begins the inner workings of a person to “awaken” and demand acknowledgement. Through the spirit & science of yoga an individual can learn how to navigate through life using principles that may not be quantifiably proven by Western Medicine, but it can and should not be ignored as a supplement or alternative therapy when we want to take responsibility for all aspects of our adventure.

The yoga postures (asanas) have the distinct benefit of not only help manage pain, increase flexibility, also allow more oxygen flowing through the body, deter mental degenerative diseases and by golly it also does increase sexual pleasure. Psychology Today says, “ The quiet moments and mediation that Yoga teaches has also been found to reduce anxiety/stress or elevates mood improves sexual function by aiding the deep relaxation fundamental to lovemaking. Yoga is deeply relaxing. Indian researchers assessed anxiety in 50 medical students, who then began practicing yoga. Their anxiety levels plummeted. Other studies show that yoga reduces levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, and elevates mood. Palo Alto, California, sex therapist Marty Klein, Ph.D, recommends yoga. "Stress contributes to sex problems and sex problems cause stress. This can become a vicious cycle. Yoga reduces anxiety, so it enhances sex and helps prevent and treat sex problems." [4]

This Yogini does not consider that is a bad thing!

Largest online protest in history : SOPA & PIPA were dropped by Congress

Hi everyone!

A big hurrah to you!!!!! We’ve won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled.

The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard.

On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.

This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.

The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”

“'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he added."

Tweet with us, shout on the internet with us, let's celebrate: Round of applause to the 13 million people who stood up - PIPA and SOPA are tabled 4 now. 13millionapplause

Share on Twitter Share on FB

We're indebted to everyone who helped in the beginning of this movement -- you, and all the sites that went out on a limb to protest in November -- Boing Boing and Mozilla Foundation (and thank you Tumblr, 4chan)! And the grassroots groups -- Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Demand Progress, CDT, and many more.

SOPA and PIPA will likely return in some form. But when they do, we'll be ready. Can you make a donation to Fight for the Future, to help us keep this fire going?

Donate

We changed the game this fall, and we're not gonna stop. $8, $20, every little bit helps.

13 million strong,

Tiffiniy, Holmes, Joshua, Phil, CJ, Donny, Douglas, Nicholas, Dean, David S. and Moore... Fight for the Future!

P.S. China's internet censorship system reminds us why the fight for democratic principles is so important:

In the New Yorker: "Fittingly, perhaps, the discussion has unfolded on Weibo, the Twitter-like micro-blogging site that has a team of censors on staff to trim posts with sensitive political content. That is the arrangement that opponents of the bill have suggested would be required of American sites if they are compelled to police their users’ content for copyright violations. On Weibo, joking about SOPA’s similarities to Chinese censorship was sensitive enough that some posts on the subject were almost certainly deleted (though it can be hard to know).

...

After Chinese Web users got over the strangeness of hearing Americans debate the merits of screening the Web for objectionable content, they marvelled at the American response. Commentator Liu Qingyan wrote:

‘We should learn something from the way these American Internet companies protested against SOPA and PIPA. A free and democratic society depends on every one of us caring about politics and fighting for our rights. We will not achieve it by avoiding talk about politics.’"

LOVE is ... Everything!

LOVE is ... (1 Corinthians 4-8)
Love is still in the air and although you can’t “see” this force of nature, you can see the fruit of its’ labor. The first of the month we read the insight provided from Buddha to his student. Another perspective on the perfect love can be found in the Bible, and many of us are familiar with the passage.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. [ 1 ]

SACREDspace : January 1/2 2012 - Yoga Vidya (pg1)

The Synthesis of Yoga

Yoga is an integral, all-embracing system. Most people find a combination of the different paths of yoga most powerful:

• Hatha Yoga develops the physical body

• Kundalini Yoga augments the energy body

• Bhakti Yoga sublimates the emotions

• Raja Yoga trains the mind

• Jnana Yoga enhances intellect and intuition

• Karma Yoga helps integrating everything into daily life.

Asanas – yoga exercises

Asanas are yoga exercises; certain positions are held for periods of time. Asanas gently develop muscle strength, flexibility and body awareness. They release blocked life energy (prana), activating inner healing power. Yoga asanas boost the body’s resistance to disease; they support and enhance the effects of other therapies.

Pranayama – breathing exercises

Everybody breathes approximately 25,920 times a day. In addition to oxygen, we also ingest prana, life energy. Because of stress, tension, wrong posture and bad habits most people breath too shallowly. Their systems do not get enough oxygen. Yoga helps. With special breathing exercises the life energy can be rebuilt. When regularly practice breathing exercises fear, depression, anxiety, stress and over-tiredness can be overcome.

Deep relaxation

Most people experience a deep relaxation t the end of every yoga class. Relaxation is especially important to the modern person: stress is reduced, the immune system strengthened, healing processes supported, mental strength and calmness restored. Complete relaxation doesn't come by oneself but may be learned patiently and systematically.

Yoga Vidya is a non-profit organization whose aim is to spread the knowledge ("vidya"), practice and techniques of classical, holistic Yoga. Founded in 1992 in Frankfurt, seated now in Horn-Bad Meinberg.

Humanity Healing & SACREDspace : January 1/2 2012 - Yoga Vidya

The Synthesis of Yoga

Yoga is an integral, all-embracing system. Most people find a combination of the different paths of yoga most powerful:

• Hatha Yoga develops the physical body

• Kundalini Yoga augments the energy body

• Bhakti Yoga sublimates the emotions

• Raja Yoga trains the mind

• Jnana Yoga enhances intellect and intuition

• Karma Yoga helps integrating everything into daily life.

Asanas – yoga exercises

Asanas are yoga exercises; certain positions are held for periods of time. Asanas gently develop muscle strength, flexibility and body awareness. They release blocked life energy (prana), activating inner healing power. Yoga asanas boost the body’s resistance to disease; they support and enhance the effects of other therapies.

HH STREETteam - Connecting Communities with Yoga with Living Fit Today

HH STREETteam - Connecting Communities with Yoga with Living Fit Today (pg1) ~Jerry Jefferson

Swaying palm trees, boats traveling the intercostal waterway, soft green grass covered with graceful bodies in Triangle Pose. West Palm Beach Yoga Day once again beckons the citizens of south Florida to downtown West Palm Beach for a family day filled with clean, healthy fun for free. Each year, certified yoga instructors from as far away as Arizona take to the Meyer Amphitheatre’s sculptured lawn and beautiful landscaping to offer the community various styles of yoga. “We gear the event to the inexperienced,” says Therese Abair, the event’s organizer and co-founder. “We want to introduce newcomers to the diversity and health benefits of yoga.”

For the last 5 years Living Fit Today and the yoga studios of Palm Beach County have opened their doors to those that wish to learn more about yoga. Bringing several yoga studios and teachers together in one place, West Palm Beach Yoga Day offers the community a stress free and inexpensive way to explore yoga. Rather than buying gas and driving around town from studio to studio to ask questions; just park your car in the city’s parking lot, come out to the grass and try yoga for free. Get your questions answered by the various studios represented. No entrance fee and no charge for classes. It is a communal gift from the organizers with many facets of which relief from economic stress is just one. This event invites the community to join together and to be healthier. Through classes from kid’s yoga to partner to flow to balance, Yoga Day is a place where family members and friends of all ages can bond with the community while learning stress free living, health consciousness, and healthy eating.

If taking group classes is not your thing, Yoga Day is also a place were you can just sit on the grass, enjoy the weather, watch others, or if you chose, shop. In addition to the 14 yoga classes and 7 educational classes, this event pleasantly offers those new to yoga much much more. With a quick visit to the Yoga Marketplace, you may purchase the perfect yoga outfit, enjoy a healthy snack while gazing up at the trees, relax for a free massage as an instructor serenades a beginner’s yoga class in the distance, leisurely consult with an experienced yoga instructor about your specific needs, experience a free acupuncture session, or just sit on the grass, commune with nature, and find a like minded explorer with which to strike a conversation. Individually, Yoga Day is inherently relaxing. Communally, Yoga Day is unifying.

What started out as a lunch conversation between friends has turned into Florida’s largest free outdoor yoga event- West Palm Beach Yoga Day. From a meager beginning in 2007, with 125 in attendance and the positive feedback gave us the incentive to bring it back year after year. Since that first year, this event has grown from a 4 hour event with 5 teachers to an event with more variety than ever before. In 2012 we will be celebrating our 6th straight year and expect over 1500 participants!

The event takes place on three different settings. You'll have a choice of enjoying your yoga on the main area, on our popular, intimate east berm overlooking the beautiful intercoastal waterfront or enjoy the seminars on the west berm. A full day of yoga taught by some of the most experienced instructors in the community who are known both nationally and internationally. The day also includes a few musical performances sprinkled throughout the day.

The mission of West Palm Beach Yoga Day is to 1) raise awareness of Yoga and its benefits to individuals 2) provide those new to yoga a non-threatening environment to try yoga 3) remain free for the community. So far we have been very successful in meeting our mission. On average, 13% of the attendees are new to yoga. Several have contacted us to let us know that their exposure to yoga at Yoga Day has changed their life. Ever year we rekindle friendships made from previous years and so blessed create new ones each year.

The 6th West Palm Beach Yoga Day is scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2012 anticipating over 1500 participants throughout the day, taking in 21 sessions over three stages along the beautiful West Palm Beach Waterfront.

We invite you to join us. We have space for you and your mat. January is a perfect time to visit Florida and enjoy yoga, the outdoors and a great community of folks. Event information can be found at: YogaDay.LivingFitToday.com
